How many sessions? That depends on the condition, how long it has been there and how you respond — it is not something anyone can promise in advance. Shockwave therapy is normally given as a short course spaced over a few weeks rather than as a one-off. For plantar fasciopathy, for example, EMS suggests a course commonly falls in the region of three to five sessions. We review as we go, and if it isn’t working we’ll tell you rather than keep booking you in.

What happens next

From message to treatment

STEP 01

Message us

Tell us where you’re experiencing the problem and roughly how long it has been going on.

STEP 02

We’ll reply

We’ll discuss the issue with you and whether shockwave therapy may be appropriate for it.

STEP 03

Arrange your appointment

Choose a time that suits you. We’ll confirm it and tell you where to go and what to bring.

STEP 04

Attend your treatment

We assess the treatment area, explain what we’re doing, and proceed where appropriate.

Before you come

A few things that help

  • Wear or bring clothing that gives easy access to the area — shorts for a knee, hip or calf, a vest top for a shoulder.
  • Bring any scan reports or letters you already have about the problem.
  • Know what medication you’re taking, particularly anything that thins the blood.
  • Tell us if you’re pregnant, have a pacemaker, or have had a steroid injection into the area recently.
  • There’s no downtime afterwards — you can drive home and carry on with your day.
Assessment comes first. Treatment is only carried out where it’s appropriate. If shockwave therapy isn’t the right answer for your problem, we’ll say so and point you towards what is.
